phlyMail 4 Beta (3.9.70) released

Postby mso » 28.06.2010 15:56

We have just released the first beta of phlyMail 4, assigned build number 3.9.70.
It is available through the downloads page (for Lite) and the customer service (for MessageCenter) as installable and Core builds.

A few preliminary notes:
- this is a BETA release, it can and will contain bugs
- Do NOT use it in a production environment
- do a fresh install, do not upgrade your existing stable 3.x installation
- if you would like to test the upgrade process, do so with a clone of your stable installation
- should you run into problems, because you ignored above notes, we cannot be held responsible for any damage

For reporting bugs, please use this thread. Thank you.
When using themes other than the default "Yokohama", please download these from the themes page.

Now for a brief listing of new functions:

complete groups management
- Using the system groups you can mimic even complex organisation structures
- Groups can be nested arbitrarily
- Users can be assigned to an arbitrary amount of groups
- Every group can be assigned individual permissions
- New sub groups inherit the permissions of their parent groups, until the get their own permissions

extensive permission management
Every module brings its own set of permissions, which can be set for every group individually. The same applies to each user, too. User permissions overwrite group permissions. A user always has the sum of the permissions of all the groups (s)he is assigned to.
Since version 3.7.0 some more permissions were added. Please check you currently done assignments for groups and users again.

Improvements in the Email module
Mails can now be bounced. This can be done to multiple emails at once.
Folder export now works with IMAP folders, too.
When sending an email, one can attach his/her own vCard (VCF). To edit one's vCard theres a new entry in the settings menu. Whether, and if, which data will be sent can be defined with the email profiles. Additionally, there's a dropdown in the mail composition window to modify this setting on a per mail basis.
Signatures can now be set for the aliases, too, not just the profiles. The same applies to the VCF setting.

Improvements in the Contacts module
The image file for a record can now be of any size. Thumbnails for the various views are generated on the fly automatically.
The records were restructured to better reflect personal and business data.
Handling VCFs is now implemented, although this right now only applies to sending one's own VCF and receiving VCFs by email.
There's now the flags "Show in all contacts" and "Include in syncs" for the individual contact groups.

Improvements in the Calendar module
Events can now have attendees, who can be invited by email. Our implementation of that feature tries to come as close to the iCalendar RFC as possible. So besides the attendance status there's the roles of the attendees. Sending the invitation mails is done when saving an event. The generated mails contain links, with which the invited attendee can accept / decline the invitation.
Furthermore the calendar can management tasks (To Dos) with completion status, importance, etc. These tasks are listed in the month view, day view and week view of the calendar.
There's now a list view, where all the events of the chosen calendar are simply listed.
There's now a search function for events.
Events can be marked as "whole day", which saves the need to select the time frame 00:00-23:59 manually.
The repetition type "monthly" now allows to mark the months, at which the repetition takes place.
There's now flags for "Show in main calendar" and "Include in syncs" for the individual calendars.

Bookmarks module
MessageCenter now contains a bookmarks manager as component. For phlyMail Lite this module is still a commercial plugin.
With this module one can manage browser bookmarks (favourites) and import / export them as well.

Modifications to the front end
The button bars for the individual modules are no longer placed in the main window directly beneath the main menu, but are part of the right frame instead. So they are part of the relevant module.
Actions are now reached more quickly, saving some mouse mileage over the day.
This should make more space available (e.g. for the folder listings).
The button bars were restructured a bit, making some actions like the searches and the page selector collapsible bars.

Pin board
This new page within the application gathers some information in a nice overview, e.g. the ten last mails, the ten next events, the ten next tasks.
The pin board can be chosen as the login folder.

Misc. general improvements
- the context menus finally work under Opera and Firefox Mac
- the integrated HTML editor FCKEditor has been replaced by it successor CKEditor
- new entry "Exchange" in the main menu
- Logout: "Really?" question pop up can be disabled
- email accounts can be sorted manually
- favourite folders can be sorted via drag'n'drop
- attachments of mails can now be selected from other modules (Calendar, Contacts, Files)
- multiple file uploads via a new function of HTML5
- the recipients of SMSs and emails now contain their realname, too, when selected from the address book
- and many, many, more
