phlyMail 4.0 in the making

Postby mso » 06.07.2007 17:35

We are currently working on generation 4 of phlyMail. As already leaked in some posts in this board, this release will become a group ware solution. It should offer most of the functionality you can expect from a group ware:
- Unlimited number of groups, which can be ordered hierarchically
- Users can be assigned to various groups
- Privilege settings on group level and per user; user privileges override group privileges
- Shared folders. Currently we think this will be available for mails, calendars, contacts and files
- Public folders for the above modules

Group ware? I don't need group ware!

Some customers might feel, that working groups are not necessary for their use case. Regarding this we are pleased to announce, that you might continue using phlyMail with users completely isolated form each other. The underlying group model supports this. But on top of that you can use the privileges model, to assign or revoke certain global privileges on a per-user basis.
Thus our customers have the complete flexibility on how they wish to use our products.

When will generation 4 be released?

Initially we hoped to have it ready by now, but could not make it - now we hope to have the first betas out in about four to eight weeks.

What will updating to version 4.0 cost me?

All customers. which have a running update subscription, which is still valid at the time of release wont have any extra costs. In case you wish to upgrade to a higher product, don't hesitate to contact us.

Will updating be complicated?

Not at all. Probably all you will have to do is to delete some no longer needed files and folders. The rest of the process is done by a small script, which will ift your installation up to version 4. This script is similar to the one, which is already run when performing an auto update.
