Problem adding signatures

Postby HumbleScholar » 16.03.2011 03:09

I'm having multiple problems saving signatures.
When I create a signature in plain text format and try to save it, sometimes the screen goes haywire as shown in the attached screen dump.
It still appears to save the signature though, as when I close the window and come back to it the signature shows up in the list.
Saving signatures in HTML format does not work for me at all.
Most often when I press 'save' the signature screen goes away but the new signature does not appear in the list.
Sometimes the screen gets messed up like in the attached picture, and no saved signature appears in the list when I go back.
I tried it in different browsers with the same result.
I suspect that the HTML signature falters in part because of the settings limiting the editor functionality.
(Why not allow all HTML in signature anyway?)
I cannot say why the screen gets all messed up though...
Would appreciate any thoughts.
Cheers,
Alik

To me that looks like some weird CSS problem. Did you use another version of phlyMail before 4.0.11? Means: Did you update from a previous version?

HI Matthias, thanks for replying.
No, I did not use a previous version of phlyMail this is the first installation and quite clean, from what I can tell.
This problem occurs only in signatures - nowhere else. I'm thinking if it was a CSS problem it would be more widespread but I'm no expert.
The limited CKEditor functionality I was talking about I outlined in the attached picture. Why not allow changing colours, fonts, etc.?
Maybe the problem of saving signatures is a CKEditor bug?
Something to do with the version of it conflicting with some PHP settings, only manifesting when functionality is limited?
Just guessing. Hope this info can help with debugging.

Hi Alik,

so far I cannot reproduce the problem with the editor destroying the layout. I agree- CSS is unlikely, that was just a first, blind guess. It looks - from the first screenshot you provided - that the JavaScript fails sometimes. Can you find out, which signature might be the reason? If so, can you also find out, whether the browser (preferably Firefox, Chrome, Safari, since MSIE is bad in that regard) outputs a sensible JavaScript error to its console?

When it comes to the limited functionality: This has mainly the background, that a full blown toolbar would simply use most of the available space in the editor box. It is no big deal to add more buttons to the basic toolbar, the question would be, which are sensible?
